What is a content management system?

A content management system or CMS is a system which allows a website owner to manage their own content on their website.

Most clients want to be able to make at least small changes to their site, and a content management system will allow you to do this.

There are a variety of systems available, from Open Source (free) like Wordpress and Drupal to custom built CMS's built for Agencies own clients.

There are some things to consider when looking at your website management. Systems like Wordpress and Drupal tend to be rather large and cumbersome, and restrict the design elements of your site, plus can require a high level of skill to update the site. They are not always ideal to use and some clients will move away from these sites as they have found them too difficult to use.

At Mitchell Creative we use a system which is very easy for the client to use and can be used on any existing website. We can simply plug it in to your site. It gives you online access to your website and it can be customised so only the areas that you want to change are accessible. This means that you can't damage the coding that sits in your website.

It will allow you change text and images in your site. Usually we would discuss with you which elements you will need to change and develop so that your site can be built to allow that to be done easily.
